Businesses seek government support to meet EV target

 this undertaking by calling on the government of India to support a bold target of having at 65 per cent of EVs of the total number of vehicles that are sold in the country by the end of this decade. This is far beyond the target of 30 per cent EVs by 2030, recently launched by New Delhi. Nevertheless, the WBCSD is of the view that If India is able to slash its road transport emissions by 15 per cent by the end of the decade, it would put the industry on a path to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

“Setting an ambitious target of at least 65% of new vehicle sales being electric in 2030 while ensuring the sale of at least 90 million electric vehicles (EVs) in this decade will help India meet its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs),” read the statement, published on Thursday (14 October). “The target of 65% includes several vehicle segments, including two-wheelers, three-wheelers, cars, buses and goods vehicles.”
