The Amazon now releases more carbon than it stores!

(CU)_A study has found that the world’s largest rainforest’s ability to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere may now be a thing of the past. A research published in the journal Nature Climate Change has found that the quantity of carbon released due to the destruction of the Amazon between 2010 and 2019, exceeded the amount the rainforest was able to absorb during this decade. According to the study, the region saw a net loss of 0.67 billion tonnes of carbon over the past decade, prompting calls for increased climate action in Brazil, where more than 60 per cent of the Amazon lies.
