Paris, France (CWBN)_ The French people and the international community were left in shock as terror attacks targeting innocent civilians ensued one after the other since the beheading of middle school civics teacher, Samuel Paty, in the suburbs of Paris on the 16th this month, at the hands of Chechen-Muslim youth.

The situation escalated following the French Government’s response to the Paty’s beheading, in support of civic liberties, with the collective international Muslim communities orchestrating mass protests and boycotting the French products, starting in Turkey, where President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, denounced the French President, Emmanuel Macron’s apparent “anti-Muslim” commentary, and further inquiring into his counterpart’s mental health.

France, a home to about 5 million Muslims citizens and at the same time France has maintained a positive approach on migrant refugees into the European Union, opening its borders to roughly 1.5 million refugees, many of them Muslims fleeing war or religious persecution, as per records collected from 2015-2018.

Church attack in Nice

The attack was reported to have taken place around 9am (local time), yesterday (29th October), where 21 year old Tunisian wielding a knife had reportedly shouted “Allahu akbar” (God is great), before attacking a group of civilians at the Notre Dame Basillica in Nice, France.

Three people were killed and several others were injured in the incident; the first victim was a 60 year old woman who was “virtually beheaded”, according to the anti-terrorism prosecutor, the second victim who had his throat slit was a male lay-staff member. The third person was a 44 year old woman who was repeatedly stabbed but had managed to flee the church and sought refuge in a nearby café. Sadly, she succumbed to her injuries despite the intervention of several medics who had responded to the emergency.

The attacker was shot down by the police and has been identified as Brahim Aouissaaoui. Although critically injured, the attacker had repeatedly shouted “Allahu akbar”. It was further reported that a Quran, two telephones, a 12inch knife and bag with two additional knives have been found at the scene.

“I say it with great clarity once again today: we won’t surrender anything.” – Macron

Moreover, the threat level in France has been raised to its highest and around 7000 French soldiers have been deployed to protect schools and places of worship.

Nice was also the centre of major jihadist attack, where a truck was driven into a crowd of people on Bastille Day, killing 86 people.

Governments around the world have condemned the attack, alongside various Muslim communities, noting that the ideology behind the attacks is alien to the values of Islam.

The leader of radial political right, Marine Le Pen, claimed that the attacks were a “dramatic escalation of Islamic acts of war” and deemed it necessary to eradicate Islam from French soil.

French Consulate attack in Jeddah

A Saudi national in his forties had reportedly entered the French Consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and had stabbed one of the security guards with a “sharp tool”. The guard was later hospitalized but had suffered “minor injuries”.

The incident occurred a matter of hours after the attack in Nice.

The attacker was arrested outside the consulate by the regional police department. The details of stabbing remain unclear.

Moreover, Saudi Arabia is among the states to have condemned Macron’s previous comments.

Avignon incident

Initial reports made by the regional news channel, Europe1, stated that a man wielding a knife had attacked a group of French police officers yesterday at 11:15am (local time), in Avignon, France.

However, a clarification issued by the local prosecutor informed the media that the attacker was in fact an “unbalanced person, who seems close to the extreme right and spent time in psychiatry”. The police report on the incident further added that the man was “shot dead after threatening a Maghrebian trader with a hand gun” and was wearing a jacket with a “Defend Europe” logo printed on it.

The police had initially used non-lethal munitions against the suspect but were later forced to use lethal force when he had charged at the police, however, despite the initial reports, was not an Islamist terrorist and had not shouted “Allahu Akbar”.

One officer was reported to have been injured.
