Abuja, Nigeria (CWBN)_ At least 43 rice farmers have been “beheaded” and another six were seriously wounded in an alleged Boko Haram incursion that took place on Saturday (28th Nov) less that 20km from Borno’s state capital, Maiduguri (north-east).

Local anti-jihadist militia have confirmed that as many as 60 farmers from Sokoto (north-west), nearly 1000km away, had been hired to work the fields. Eight farmers have been reported missing.

The remains of those killed have been take to the nearby village Zabarmari, pending burial.

The Boko Haram and its rival splinter group, Islamic State in West Africa (ISWAP), have grown notorious for claiming lives of famers, loggers, herders and fishermen in the fashion, accusing the victims of spying for the rival party.

The massacre follows two others that occurred last month during which 22 farmers were killed, which adds to a death toll of about 36,000 killed in the conflict since 2009, while displacing millions.
