NEW DELHI (CWBN)_India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh slammed remarks made by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau last month concerning protest by farmers on several farm laws in the country.

During an exclusive interview with ANI on Wednesday (Dec 30), the Defence Minister noted that the farmers’ protest is an internal matter of India and no country in the world has the right to comment on such issues.

“First of all, I would like to say about prime minister of any country that comment should not be made about India’s internal affairs. India does not require any outside interference. We will sort out issues by ourselves,” he said.

Last month, the Canadian Prime Minister expressed concern regarding the protest in India against three farm laws. Speaking during a Facebook video interaction, Trudeau added that Canada will always be there to defend the right of peaceful protest.

Subsequently, Canada’s envoy was summoned by India, and was informed that the remarks of Trudeau and Canadian lawmakers in this regard has the potential of “seriously” damaging bilateral ties.

Moreover, several lawmakers in the US have also voiced their support for these Indian farmers.

The South Asian country has called these remarks “ill-informed” and “unwarranted”, while Singh claimed that these were attempts made in order to mislead “our farmer brothers”.
