Mumbai, India (CU)_ Most of the Bollywood films in 2020 and 2021 have been released on OTT platforms. Due to the closure of theaters, many directors opted for OTT releases. Despite the lack of major releases this year, here is a list of the finest Bollywood films released in the first half of 2021.

Kaagaz

Kaagaz is a biographical drama film directed by Satish Kaushik and produced by Salman Khan. Pankaj Tripathi plays the lead in the film. The story of the movie is about the farmer Bharat Lal Bihari’s struggle and fight against the Indian bureaucracy, who was proclaimed dead on government records. The film clearly depicts his 19-year battle with the government.

Madam Chief Minister

Subhash Kapoor wrote and directed the Bollywood political drama Madam Chief Minister. Richa Chadda plays the key role in the film, while Manav Kaul, Akshay Oberoi, and Saurabh Shukla play supporting roles. Madam Chief Minister is a story of a fiery Tara (Richa Chadha) on her path from rejected and humiliated lover of a cunning politician to gaining the post of Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister. Tara promises vengeance after being insulted by her lover Indu Tripathi (Akshay Oberoi), and gains the assistance of the determined and revered Masterji (Saurabh Shukla).

Pagglait

Pagglait is a Bollywood drama directed by Umesh Bist. Sanya Malhotra plays the lead in the film. Shobha Kapoor, Ekta Kapoor, and Guneet Monga are the producers of the film. The film is a story of a young widow who learns how to face the family. The movie depicts the struggles of a young widow who lost her husband after just five months of marriage. The story follows the aftereffects of the death and the mess created by her family members and relatives and how the life of the widow moves on.

Saina

The Bollywood biopic-drama Saina was directed by Amole Gupta. The film is based on the life of Indian badminton player Saina Nehwal, with Parineeti Chopra playing the lead role. Shraddha Kapoor was booked earlier to play in the biography. However, due to scheduling conflicts, the actress dropped out of the production, and Parineeti Chopra took her place. The movie depicts the success story of Saina Nehwal.

Roohi

Roohi is a Bollywood horror comedy directed by Hardik Mehta and produced by Dinesh Vijan. Janhvi Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, and Varun Sharma play the key roles in the film. The film’s story centres around a ghost that kidnaps newlyweds on their honeymoons.

Mumbai Saga

Mumbai Saga is a Bollywood gangster drama directed by Sanjay Gupta and produced by T-series. The story takes place in the 1980s and 1990s. Along with Jackie Shroff, Suniel Shetty, Prateik Babbar, Gulshan Grover, Rohit Roy, and Amole Gupte, John Abraham and Emraan Hashmi featured in the lead roles in Mumbai Saga. The story is inspired by true events. Mumbai Saga opens with a feared mobster Amartya Rao (John Abraham) killing a businessman (Samir Soni) in broad daylight. The story continues with the cop, Vijay Savarkar (Emraan Hashmi) hunting for Amartya Rao, when the businessman’s wife announces 10 crore for his head.
