California, USA (CU)_ A recent research published in the Journal of Perinatal Education emphasizes that the present maternity care system raises risks for healthy mothers and their infants despite technology and medical science’s potential to address complicated health conditions. According to another study published in the ‘Milbank Memorial Fund, Evidence-Based Maternity Care: What It Is and What It Can Achieve’ paper, the results indicate that delivery is less safe for pregnant women and infants than it should be, resulting in hazard when it might be avoided. Thus, it is critical to discuss and emphasize advices and strategies from experts for increasing maternal and infant safety, as well as to explain what every pregnant woman should know to have a safe, healthy delivery.

According to Dr Aruna Kalra, Senior Gynaecologist and Obstetrician at CK Birla Hospital in Gurugram, “In order to ensure a safe and healthy birth, every pregnant woman should start taking care of herself as soon as she gets to know about her pregnancy so as to take good care of the baby growing inside her.” She gave some useful tips for safe delivery. She added, “A good healthcare provider and a place of birth with good birth history are equally important. In order to keep the birth process safe and healthy, it is very important to respect the simple, natural process and not interfere in any way. Routine health check-ups, a healthy diet, proper medications and a few precautions are all what you need for a healthy delivery.”

The doctor also noted that a peaceful and happy mind is critical for a healthy pregnancy phase. Dr Aruna said, “During pregnancy, a number of psychological changes occur in a woman’s body. However, keeping stress and anxiety at bay, you can overcome any challenge that comes your way. Every pregnant woman should know that it is better to let the labor pain begin on its own. It is the best way to ensure that the baby is ready to be born.” Dr Aruna advised the pregnant ladies to remain active, move around, walk and change positions during the entire gestation period. She said, “This helps her to cope up with the labor pain while gently allowing the baby to move into the pelvis. Follow all healthy pregnancy habits and you are good to go for a safe and healthy labor and birth!”

Manisha Chopra, a nutritionist, dietitian, and fitness expert, advocates that expectant mothers understand that nutrition and exercise are critical in achieving the goal of a safe and healthy birth. She said, “Pregnancy is the time to enjoy food cravings while eating healthy and nutritious food and not the time to cut calories or go on a specific diet,” she shares. She advised a minimum of 300 calories or more per day for healthy baby and safe delivery. Manisha said, “The nutrients you consume directly contribute to baby’s growth and development. Calcium, proteins, iron, folic acid, etc are all necessary. So, don’t forget to include lots of veggies, fruits, whole grain breads and low fat dairy products in your diet.”

Additionally, she emphasized the need of consuming enough water and other fluids such as soups, coconut water, fresh fruit juice, and smoothies to keep pregnant women hydrated. Manisha added, “During pregnancy, the blood volume of a woman increases and so, drinking enough water can help prevent problems like constipation and dehydration.” It is also critical to engage in easy activities throughout pregnancy, she added, suggesting a 30-minute walk to help with sleep, energy, back discomfort and swelling, mood enhancement, and weight loss. In her conclusion note, she added, “Every pregnant woman should get enough sleep. Following a healthy routine for these 9 beautiful months will ensure a safe and healthy delivery.”
