Somalia launches its first public oxygen plant at Mogadishu

Mogadishu, Somalia (CU)_ The first public oxygen plant in Somalia was launched last week, providing a ray of optimism for a country where a life-saving coronavirus therapy has been mostly inaccessible to patients during the outbreak. Global demand for medical oxygen has increased dramatically in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, with several nations experiencing severe shortages.

According to a research published in May in the medical journal The Lancet, based on the data from 64 hospitals in ten countries, oxygen shortage along with the lack of medical equipment will severely impact the African healthcare and Africans who are critically ill with COVID-19 are more likely to die than patients in other parts of the world.
