American Biotech Company to help the poorest

CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts (CU)_As many countries across the globe continue to expand their vaccination campaigns with the aim of containing the speared of the Coronavirus. However, this has not been the case in the African continent, where less than 4.5 per cent of the entire population has been fully vaccinated by the end of last month. This owing to the fact that countries across the region have been relying on the COVAX vaccine-sharing scheme and other bilateral deals and donations in order to inoculate their citizens.

Meanwhile, in the Western world, these efforts have been largely successful, with nearly 66 per cent of the UK’s population been fully vaccinated, while in the EU this figure is at 62 per cent and in the US its 55 per cent. Against such a background African countries, together with the World Health Organisation (WHO), have been calling on drug makers from across the globe to help them in securing supplies of COVID-19 shots by setting up manufacturing facilities in the continent.
