Prince Harry’s ‘very special’ reunion with the Queen

LONDON (CU)_In January last year, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced plans to step down from their roles as senior members of the Royal Family and become financially independent. Over the following weeks, the Duke joined a few lengthy discussions with his grandmother, father and brother regarding their decision. During this time he commuted between the United Kingdom and Canada, where the couple was temporarily residing before they moved to set up a permanent home in California, with their son Archie.

Since then the Sussexes’ relations with Buckingham Palace have sharply deteriorated, particularly as the couple continued to make headlines, making several harsh allegations against members of the royal family, including a claim that a member of the Firm had raised concerns regarding how dark their son Archie’s skin might be. Nevertheless, following the couple’s tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey, Prince Harry confirmed that it was not Queen Elizabeth who made these racist remarks, which came as no surprise, since the Duke is known to have always maintained a close and respectful relationship with his grandmother.

Now it has been revealed that the pair shared a “very special” reunion back in April, after being separated for more than a year during the pandemic. According to the new epilogue of Finding Freedom, Prince Harry’s return to the UK for Prince Philip’s funeral provided him with an opportunity to “spend precious moments” with Her Majesty.

“To see each other after so long apart, the longest he [Prince Harry] hadn’t seen the Queen for, was very special,” a source was quoted by the authors of the epilogue Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand. “Despite everything that has happened, he has the utmost love and respect for her. Her life of duty and service is one of the many ways in which she has inspired him to also serve.”

Scobie and Durand also revealed that after the funeral the Duke also spent most of his time with Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank, who are close friends of the Sussexes. During his visit, he was not accompanied by his wife Meghan Markle, who was heavily pregnant with the couple’s daughter Lilibet, and was advised not to travel with him.
