Some Tory MPs refuse to back Sunak on scrapping EU laws

Europe UK (Commonwealth Union) – A Bill forwarded by former prime minister Liz Truss to remove some retained EU laws to make provisions associated with the interpretation of retained EU law and to its relationship with other law; paving the way for the restatement, replacement or updating of some retained EU law; has been met resistance from the opposition Labor party and certain members of the Conservative party.

Around 4,000 pieces of EU law that are linked to the British membership of the bloc, have forwarded a deadline till the end of 2023 to select which laws to retain. Some Conservative MPs, such as David Buckland, Dan Poulter and Sir Bob Neill have expressed concerns over the moves.

“I understand that this bill is an important next stage in terms of clarifying the law and making sure the regulations we need are retained,” said Buckland in statement to The Times in the UK.

However, a spokesperson for the British government had emphasized there were “no plans” to extend the deadline after the Sunday Times of the UK recorded a statement from a senior government source stating that it was “inevitable” that the process would be postponed until as late as 2026.

The government source also indicated to the paper that they felt the House of Lords would amend the bill, making the British government compromise on the deadline. The report also indicated that 3 departments, which include the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, the Department for Transport and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, are likely to increase the deadline by 3 years.

Since Brexit was achieved from a referendum that was held in 2016 the transition of the UK has faced obstacles with many Brexit supporters accusing the Remain voters of making attempts to sabotages Brexit. Many Remainers have claimed Brexit is not working to which Brexit supporters state that it so far has not properly been implemented.
