Why is the Manipur Olympic Association peeved?

The Olympics are a big deal. We’ve heard countless people say this is it. It’s a big deal that countries have their own committees and associations to represent them when meetings are held in regards to the Olympics. It’s no different with India. The thing in India is that it’s such a large country ad they have more than one association per sector.

Now we come to the story part of it. There was a slight issue where Manipur was concerned. This is because the Manipur Olympic Association (MOA) has appealed to the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Manipur to review the identification of Khelo India Centres in 16 districts of the state, sanctioned by the Union Youth Affairs and Sports Ministry. The sports apex body of MOA in an executive council meeting held at the conference hall of Olympic Bhavan, Khuman Lampak on Wednesday, closely observed and discussed the opening of 16 Khelo India Centres in detail, which called for review for proper identification of the centres. Although the MOA is indebted to the Sports Ministry for the great initiative, it observed that the YAS department, Manipur seems not to have properly studied the criteria to the opening of Khelo India Centre as well as Centre of Excellence under the Khelo India Scheme.

The opening of this Centre was needed in Manipur and the association is not happy that it was not getting opened. But the MOA has to understand that these Centres have to be done within the guide lines or it could cause problems, what if something were to happen to an athlete while training. These are concerns that the government has and they are valid.
