UK support to help educate 20 million children in crisis!

            Andrew Mitchell, The Minister of development announced that for 20 million children living in humanitarian crises around the world, from Syria to Ukraine, UK has agreed to fund the education for these children.

          During pandemics, conflicts and extreme weather events, the contribution of 80 million pounds to the work of education cannot wait (ECW)will help keep children safe and provide education for the next 4 years.

           The fund has provided support to over 30 countries affected by crisis since its inception in 2017. 7 million children and adolescents has reached by trained 87,000 teachers, of whom 48% were girls. Vital support for helpless children, young people and keep them safe and learning. The ECW announced $ 7 million in funding, in response to the deadly earthquake in Turkey and Syria.

          The UK is a co-funding member of ECW and proud to be a leading donor, reflecting the commitment by the UK to prioritizing education in emergencies, including the most Vulnerable.

                  The ECW targets to support 20 million children in affected countries during a 4-year period 2023-2026, the UK is pledging 80 million pounds as part of a 90-million-pound package to provide assistant for education in crisis. To ensure experts education support can be mobilized quickly in the event of a crisis, the UK has invested in other partners apart from supporting ECW.

             The pledge from the UK is a crucial commitment towards the sustainable development goals in arms conflict, climate disasters and displacement for the 222 million affected children and adolescents due to crisis, who urgently require quality education.

The investment will help to build a better world for generations to come. Due to displacement and crisis girls, are particularly affected with the higher risk of trafficking and sexual violence. Only 27% of refugee girls are enrolled in secondary school, in crisis affected countries.

                The long-standing commitment has helped to support global education needs, from primary and secondary education to higher education and skills.
