Seasonal representation of LGBT+ community spikes

New York, USA (CWBN)_ The tradition of holiday movies made a record high in 2020 in the representation of the LGBT+ community compared to the last 20 years, according to GLAAD, a non-governmental organisation based in the US fighting against the defamatory portrayals of the community.

Hulu and Hallmark Channel have reportedly made several productions featuring LGBT+ couples in the main storyline, while there have been seven other movies that have produced modest representation of the largely persecuted and marginalized community.

CEO of GLAAD said that “We’ve really gone from zero to hundred” and that the development was a wakeup call to the film industry.

Nonetheless the overall representation of the LGBT+ community in Hollywood remains significantly low although it has opted to grow with the changes in visibility in demographics.

Out of about 879 recorded characters on prime-time programmes, about 90 characters are clearly identified as being a part of the LGBT+ community, whereas 30 of those characters play a recurring role in the storyline.
