Hyderabad, India (CU)_ According to a team of researchers, patients with ascites, which is a condition where fluid collects in the abdominal spaces, can be treated with an Ayurvedic poly-herbal medication that is capable of delaying the progression of chronic kidney disease as well as resuming the functional parameters of the key organ back to normal.

In a research published in the most recent issue of the Journal of Ayurveda and Integrated Medical Sciences, a team of researchers including Assistant Professor Komala A, Siddesh Aradhyamath, and researcher Mallinath IT from JSS Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital in Karnataka provided a variety of Ayurvedic formulations in addition to AIMIL Pharmaceuticals’ innovation Neeri KFT for damaged kidneys.

According to the researchers, the result was positive. They said, “A dose of 20 ml of this ayurvedic formulation daily –morning and evening — was given for a month”. In addition to preserving the kidneys of the patients from additional damage caused by the illness, the herbal medication also aids in the expulsion of fluid from their abdomens. According to the researchers, the herbal medicine removed the fluid from the abdomen and expelled it through the urinary tract.

The NEERI-KFT, a herbal medication produced from plants, is made of herbs with diuretic qualities, including Punarnava, Varun, Sigru, Sariva, Makoi, and Sirish. According to Sanchit Sharma from AIMIL Pharmaceuticals, Neeri KFT has been shown to be beneficial in strengthening the kidneys and eliminating harmful fluids from the body over the past couple of years. Ascites often arise when the liver fails to operate correctly or malfunctions, resulting in an accumulation of fluid between the abdominal lining and the organs.

Ascites is cirrhosis’ most prevalent complication (scarring of the liver). It affects nearly 60% of cirrhosis patients within 10 years of their diagnosis, and the two-year survival rate is 50%. Ascites is characterized by non-painful abdominal swelling that worsens rather than subsiding, stomach discomfort, weight gain, feeling satiated after eating a small amount, shortness of breath due to high abdominal pressure, pushing up on the diaphragm, and reducing the space for the lungs to expand.
