KENYA AFRICA – The world after the pandemic is looking at the health of the people in a different light. Especially the African continent. Countries are actively getting together and making sure that they have enough medical supplies in case the need arises.
This is how we come to the massive blood drive that the Kenyan government is now having to make sure they enough blood in their banks in case of an emergency. It is The Kenya Tissue and Transplant Authority targets to collect at least 200,000 units of blood by December in order to surpass the target of 500,000 units.
The authority, which has been mandated with the safety, biosafety and wellbeing of donors and recipients in medical services relating to human derived medical products like blood, blood plasma, heart and kidney, has so far collected 346,000 units this year. This is still a brilliant collection.
The blood drive has done well since its start in January. The health ministry has done its research and has mapped all the areas that are hot spots for accidents so that they can make it safer by providing better policing services.
This comes about after there had been more than 30% of death caused by just road accidents alone in these areas. The deaths happened because the patient could not get blood as there was a lack of it. The agency has taken it upon them selves to make sure that this number will go down.
The deaths that happen because of blood related complications can be avoided most times if there are enough reserves in the blood bank. With this being the goal Kenya is moving forward fast in getting as much blood as they can to, they have enough reserves incase there is a need for it.
