Singapore has long been known for its high-quality education system, consistently ranking amongst the top countries in the world in global education rankings. However, in recent years, the country has been working towards a new approach to education, one that places a greater emphasis on holistic outcomes and the development of non-cognitive skills.

Singapore’s Ministry of Education (MOE) has identified the need to equip students with skills beyond academic knowledge in order to thrive in a rapidly changing world. This new approach to education is aimed at developing students who are resilient, adaptable, and able to think creatively.

The MOE’s new approach to education is based on three key pillars: Values, Skills, and Knowledge. Under the Values pillar, students are encouraged to develop a strong sense of responsibility, respect, and resilience. The Skills pillar focuses on the development of non-cognitive skills such as communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity. Finally, the Knowledge pillar ensures that students have a strong foundation in core academic subjects, such as language, mathematics, and science.

One of the key ways in which the MOE is implementing this new approach to education is through changes to the curriculum. In recent years, the MOE has introduced a range of new subjects and programs aimed at developing non-cognitive skills and promoting holistic outcomes.
