Karen Whitt is in charge of marketing for the Hartling Group. This group owns a chain of resorts, including, The Sands at Grace Bay, The Shore Club Long Bay, and The Palms Grace Bay. All are situated on the island of Turks, Caicos, and Providenciales.
Whitt, early in her career, worked as a hospitality specialist. She was involved in executing and planning advertisements campaigns and special events for the sport and hospitality industry.
She came to savor the natural spenders of island life since she moved to the Caribbean.
Whitt said, that “community” takes on a new meaning when living on an island, with gorgeous landscapes and truly organic experiences. Close relationships are developed and connect in a meaningful way with locals, whether through social, spiritual, work, or charity, sharing success and challenges together as one.
However, tempting it seems, certain factors have to be considered before packing your bags. Whitt said moving is a big leap of faith. Island life is different from what you are used to. Understanding culture, respecting the laws of the land, and getting to know people, maybe an initial challenge. Although it is great to dispense your talents, experience, and expertise, do so that it improves the people and island community.
She says, life here moves at a slower pace and is simply different. The approach, timing, and execution may be different when comparing accomplishments that we are used to in the technologically advanced world. Full of instant gratification, whether it is a large project or a simple task.
Whitt says, that the wardrobe becomes a lot easier to handle and simpler, as resources can be limited on an island. People adapt to live with a lot less than they ever imagined, and appreciate the things you have even more.
She noted that work is as demanding and exhausting as anywhere else, but with a view to die for.
