Amazon Web Services (AWS) has launched a new program called the AWS Space Accelerator, which is named APJ 2025. This program helps the growing space technology startup community in Australia, New Zealand, India, and Japan. Over ten weeks, it will assist up to 40 selected startups by providing essential resources, expert guidance, and strong technical support. The main goal is to develop their innovative ideas and encourage business growth by effectively using AWS tools and services.

The AWS Space Accelerator: APJ 2025 is available for space technology startups at any stage of development from these countries. The program begins in September 2025 and concludes with a demo day in December 2025. During this event, participating startups will present their progress and solutions to potential investors and customers. The results could create opportunities for future partnerships and funding. Participants in this accelerator can expect several benefits. They can get up to $100,000 in AWS credits, which will help reduce the high costs of developing space technology. In addition to financial support, this program offers tailored technical advice for space-focused businesses. Startups are monitored by experienced professionals who can assist with market entry and growth challenges. The accelerator connects them with industry leaders and venture capital firms. Also, it gives them direct access to important networks for growth and investment.

This program builds on the success of a similar initiative AWS launched in India in 2024. That program effectively supported 24 startups working on various aspects of space technology, including new spacecraft propulsion systems, innovative satellite imagery applications, and new ideas in space tourism. Many of these startups secured customer contracts or attracted major investments, showing how accelerator programs can positively impact startup success and technological development in the space sector.

The Asia-Pacific region is experiencing remarkable growth in its space economy, reflecting a global trend toward the increased commercialization of space. Japan currently values its space economy at around £20 billion, with plans to double this figure by the early 2030s. Similarly, we anticipate rapid growth in India’s space sector. It is forecasting an increase from £6 billion in 2022 to £34 billion by 2033. This approach allows them to test their concepts. Further, it makes improvements quickly before investing, leading to affordable innovation.

The accelerator focuses on urgent global issues and market needs. The program is particularly interested in startups creating solutions like satellite imagery for precision agriculture. Additionally, they aim to monitor the climate effectively and respond quickly to disasters. These efforts aim to generate economic growth in the space sector while addressing global challenges. Furthermore, the initiative includes addressing climate change and improving data access to narrow the digital gap. AWS is reportedly working with several key organizations to ensure the success and reach of this ambitious initiative.
