The ability to skip managed isolation and quarantine (MIQ) and isolate at home is key to reopening New Zealand to the world.
Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins last week announced MIQ stays for international arrivals would be shortened from 14 days to seven days, followed by a short stint of isolation at home until a day nine test result has been received.
But a full period of self-isolation for travellers still won’t be an option until early next year.
While a self-isolation pilot involving 150 business travellers is currently under way, it is clear there is much work that needs to be done before it can be introduced more widely.
