Tropical storm Franklin set to make landfall with severe rain and life-threatening strong winds and flash flooding as it approaching towards the south shores of the Dominican Republic. Tropical storm warnings and watches are in place for Dominican Republic and Haiti.

Storm Franklin stationary, roughly 290 miles from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph.

Franklin is predicted to intensify and divert north, towards Hispaniola. The Island consisting of Dominican Republic and Haiti is anticipated to receive strong winds, heavy rain and dangerous coastal waves.

The NHC forecast update informed that five to ten inches of rain with a higher isolated amounts up to 15 inches, may be experienced across areas of Hispaniola. The NHC said, Puerto Rico will also experience the force of the tropical storm with predicted rainfall of 2 to 4 inches, with higher isolated amounts of 6 inches.

The forecast indicate that Franklin will weaken as it crosses the mountains of Hispaniola, and expected to re-intensify to a hurricane as it enters open waters again, but the forecast corn tracks Franklin away from land towards the end of the week.

Tropical storm watches over the northern coast of the Dominican, Franklin combined forces with Emily and Gert formulating the third named system presently whipping through the Atlantic and a potential forth on the way in Harold in the Gulf of Mexico. Emily has faded to a trace low. The Atlantic basin has become activated less than a month prior to metrological peak of hurricane season, with five tropical systems being monitored across the basin.

Advice to prolong commercial, logistic and transport in areas in the path of the storm, specially if infrastructure is damaged. Gather updated information on transport and road conditions specially through areas where flooding had taken place. Confirm flight information before driving or checking out of hotels as clearing passenger blockage in certain locations may take several days.
