The Education Ministry under the Government of India has rolled out an amazing opportunity – the ‘2024 Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship tenable in the United Kingdom’! This golden ticket is your chance to pursue a full-time master’s degree course starting in September or October 2024. And guess what? These scholarships are generously offered by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC), UK.
So, here’s the lowdown: The Department of Higher Education, which oversees external scholarships, is all set to host this incredible program. The process is smooth and simple – you can fill out the application form online. Remember, you’ll need to submit your applications on both the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission’s online application system (OAS) and the education ministry’s ‘SAKSHAT’ portal.
Mark your calendars, because the CSC OAS will be open for applications from September 25 to November 25, 2023.
Now, let’s talk eligibility. To be considered for a Commonwealth master’s scholarship, you should be an Indian citizen and a permanent resident. Plus, you should hold a graduation degree with a minimum of 60% marks, or if you have 50 to 59 percent marks in Graduation, you’ll need a relevant postgraduate qualification.
One important thing to note is that the CSC usually doesn’t fund a second UK Master’s degree. But if you’re applying for one, just be sure to explain why this additional study is crucial for you.
Quick tip: The MBA programme is not covered under this scholarship. Keep that in mind!
For those of you who’ve been abroad for studies, training, or specialization, whether on scholarships or your own, for more than six months, don’t worry, you’re still eligible to apply. Just ensure you’ve been in India for at least two consecutive years as of November 25, 2023, after returning from abroad.
Now, onto the exciting part – securing that coveted offer of admission from a UK university partnered with the CSC for the September/October 2024 intake. You’ll need this offer when applying on the SAKSHAT portal. And guess what? If you have an offer of admission for the September/October 2023 academic session OR the January/February 2024 session, you’re also eligible to apply. How awesome is that?
Heads up: The clock is ticking, and the last date for submitting nominations is December 12, 2023.
Let’s talk about the nomination criteria. Nominations will be made on a theme-wise proportional basis. If you can provide proof of receiving a confirmed offer of admission by 4 pm on November 25, 2023, in any UK university listed on the CSC website, you’ll be in the running for nomination.
Here’s a little extra tidbit: Your chances for nomination will be influenced by certain parameters, so pay attention! For instance, if you’re considering returning to India after completing the course and working here for at least 2 years, you’ll earn 4 points. And that’s just one example!
