The Commonwealth Union was born in the modern internet age just five years ago.
Today, it has grown into a living and thriving cyber community reaching over 30 million people, with more than 2 million monthly visitors and expanding exponentially across the digital world. It represents the peoples of the modern Commonwealth of Nations and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA7) nations that were formerly British protectorates.
The Commonwealth Union is a Non-Governmental Organisation and global media cyber portal launched as the first international cyber community built upon shared values, with the mission of bringing together the 2.6 billion people and 150 million businesses of the Commonwealth of Nations and the MENA7 countries in cyberspace.
The Commonwealth Union is, in many respects, a Facebook and a LinkedIn for the Commonwealth and MENA7 nations.
Yet unlike most modern cyber communities, the Commonwealth Union is founded upon shared principles, institutions, language, history, and values developed over more than 200 years — including through two World Wars in which Commonwealth soldiers sacrificed their lives in their hundreds of thousands to defend those ideals.
These enduring values are rooted in the Magna Carta, the Bill of Rights, the Rule of Law, the Separation of Powers, an Independent Judiciary, Parliamentary Democracy, a shared common language, common legal systems, and administrative procedures that today form the constitutional and institutional bedrock of Commonwealth nations.
The mission of the Commonwealth Union is to build cyber communities across every sphere of human activity through its internet portal, webinars, conferences, workshops, knowledge upskilling initiatives, training programmes, achievement awards, and, more recently, through the development of interactive advisory communities focused on strengthening Commonwealth ties through its peoples, their achievements, their businesses, and their activities — and not solely through governments.
The Commonwealth Union operates independently of the Commonwealth Secretariat, which was established 61 years ago as the diplomatic and administrative bridge between Commonwealth governments.
The media portal of the Commonwealth Union reports comprehensively on the work of the Secretariat across Commonwealth countries and during the biennial Commonwealth Heads of Government Meetings (CHOGM).
It also reports extensively on the activities of other major Commonwealth institutions with a global footprint, including the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council and the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.
To bring the peoples and businesses of the Commonwealth closer together, the Commonwealth Union is actively encouraging the creation of business clubs and sector-based cyber communities through its media platform, commonwealthunion.com, which is now viewed by millions globally.
Under a media and publishing framework agreement the Commonwealth Union is helping to facilitate the creation of 150 business verticals as independent cyber communities spanning multiple industries, sectors, and professional services.
These standalone, independent, and self-regulated cyber communities are funded and developed by independent investors, each with its own boards, shareholders, advisors, and stakeholders who share a common interest in Commonwealth affairs and in strengthening what is increasingly referred to as the “Commonwealth Advantage.”
These communities are similar in concept to platforms such as Reddit and other internet-based digital communities, but are uniquely underpinned by over two centuries of shared institutional history, governance traditions, legal frameworks, and common values.
Of the 150 planned verticals, several are already under development. Among them is the Commonwealth Union Blockchain Network (@CWUblockchain), launched in August 2025 under the investment and chairmanship of HH Sheikh Saoud bin Faisal bin Sultan Al Qassimi of the ruling family of Sharjah, together with its own Board of Directors and Advisors. In April 2026, the Network launched the Commonwealth Coin, built upon its blockchain infrastructure and supported by a distinguished international Advisory Board.
Additional networks currently under development include the Commonwealth Union Digital Banking Network, soft launched in Bangalore and Mumbai in May 2026 under the chairmanship of Dr. Anshul Gupta, as well as the Port Network, Agricultural Network, Airlines Network, Smart Grid Network, Hotels Network, and many others.
These powerful global networks are effectively business clubs operating in cyberspace and are expected to evolve through the provision of services to fee-paying members as independent organisations and associations registered across relevant Commonwealth jurisdictions; under the umbrella of the Commonwealth Union as a Non Governmental Organisation.
As part of the wider media strategy, the activities, achievements, conferences, investments, and innovations emerging from these networks will, where appropriate, be reported by the Commonwealth Union news media portal — helping bring together the peoples of the Commonwealth in a shared journey of cooperation, development, and prosperity.
At a time of historic disruptions, with the post War global multilateral order torn to shreds, with every nationalist sentiment trying to put their own nation’s interest as the only consideration, with no recognition of the world as a family of nations, fuelled by the pivoting of power from the West to the East, underpinned by the fear reposed in the huge revolutionary disruptions of Ai, quantum computing, robotics in nations with under resourced social and health services and an aging population; the Commonwealth Union remains a bulwark of solidarity based on eternal human values of liberty rule of law and duty- a work in progress — with an ambition to shape and rebuild the future international order by reconnecting peoples, businesses, institutions, and ideas across one of the world’s largest values based shared historical and economic networks.
Your support, collaboration, and news stories that strengthen the Commonwealth family are warmly welcomed.
