$5m cash and drugs seized in Melbourne police sting

MELBOURNE, Australia (CWBN)_Detectives from the Echo Taskforce of the Victoria State Police seized $5 million in cash, as well as an unspecified quantity of drugs after they pulled over a South Australian truck driver in Southbank.

According to a statement issued by the state police, the 47-year-old man had been driving a truck on Dorcas Street about 9.30pm Tuesday (Dec 29), when he was intercepted by the police.

A spokeswoman for the police department noted that the detectives from the Echo Taskforce subsequently executed a search warrant and found at least $5 million in cash, as well as a quantity of drugs.

The man has been charged with knowingly possessing proceeds of crime with intent to conceal the proceeds of crime, cocaine trafficking and possession of cocaine, the statement said.

The man, identified as Michele Donato, is due to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday afternoon.
