New York, USA (CWBN)_ The CEOs of the two tech giants, Twitter and Facebook, could be hit with subpoenas in the coming days, over Republican claims of silencing the voices of conservative personalities on the platforms, following a vote in the Senate Judiciary Committee.
The claims were made following actions taken by the two companies to remove pages, content and user accounts maintained by die-hard conservative groups, who have been using the platforms to spread misinformation regarding various political personalities, including Presidential Candidate, Joe Biden, as many states have begun their early voting procedures.
Content allegedly obtained from a laptop belonging to Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, and originating from New York Post, were posted on the two social media platforms, however Twitter and Facebook opted to prevent users from sharing the content and slowing down the spread. It is claimed that compared to its counterpart, Twitter took a stronger hand against the content, highlighting a meeting between Biden and his son with an energy firm based in Ukraine, during Biden’s tenure as Vice-President.
Earlier this month, it was reported about 200 Facebook profiles, 55 pages and 76 Instagram accounts used by a US marketing company, Rally Forge, employed by Turning Point USA and a conservative group, were taken down for the same reasons. In addition, Rally Forge was also banned from the platforms.
Nonetheless, the issues of social responsibilities and regulation of tech giants, like Facebook, YouTube, Amazon, Twitter and others, remain at large.
