Uttar Pradesh prepares for COVID-19 vaccine

LADAKH, India (CWBN)_The Uttar Pradesh government is currently making plans for state-wide distribution of the new COVID-19 vaccine once its made available. Uttar Pradesh will be joining a growing list of states which plan to administer the vaccine to their citizens at no cost, but priority will be given to health workers.

State immunization officer Dr A. P. Chaturvedi stated that while they do not currently know the exact number of vaccine vials which they will be receiving, the state infrastructure will be ready to receive the vials. Construction of depots is going on in 22 districts, while in 27 others, the repair work is in progress,” he stated.

Director General of Family Welfare Dr Rakesh Dubey stated that the government’s focus is on the maintenance of cold chain storage. “Work in this regard is in progress at vaccine depots. The target is to have them ready by December 15,” he said.

Two vaccine depots will be in Lucknow, while a meeting hall of Tej Bahadur Sapru (Beli) Hospital will be the main vaccine storage centre in Prayagraj. The compound of the new CMO office at Halwai Ki Bagichi will store the vaccine in Agra and the storage centre of Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Medical College will house the vaccine for the entire Meerut division (which is comprised of the Meerut, Ghaziabad, Noida, Hapur, Bulandshahr and Baghpat districts).
