UK (CU)_ Ahsan Bhatti owner of online pharmacy Quick Meds has some concern about the impact it will make when Amazon an online delivery giant enters the industry.
With the service allowing customers to buy and get their meds delivered the smaller online pharmacies and delivery companies will lose whatever business they have and will end up losing or reducing further.
According to Mr. Bhatti it is not only the small or middle tier pharmacies that will take a hit it is also the pharmaceutical giants such as CVS and Walgreens that’s watching their stocks drop making the investors nervous about their shares.
The UK and the US have two different ways of doing medicine and pharmaceutical needs. The UK drug markets cannot set their own prices unlike in the US where the drug prices can differ from store to store.
In the UK drug prices are regulated so that all the drugs are the same price at any location. This means that Amazon cannot compete pricewise in the UK but they can compete with convenience and speed.
Mr. Bhatti goes on to say that while the Royal Mail is not a bad option at all and has been a generally good service throughout the years there have been cases of medicine getting lost or not delivered on the correct dates.
Apart from the better improved logistics Amazon also in a massive company with a huge work force and man power that can possibly give the customer a better experience than a single owned delivery company.
