Tamil Nadu government permits 100 percent occupancy in theatres ahead of Pongal releases

Chennai, India (CU)_ The Tamil Nadu government granted permission to open the theatres with 100 percent seating capacity. Owing to the release of the mega movies Master and Eeswaran during the Pongal festival and on the request of the actors Vijay and Simbu, the state government decided to reopen the theatres for this festival season. Initially, the government has allowed only 50 percent seating capacity in theatres.

Actor Vijay last week met the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami in person and requested for some ease in the current restrictions in theatre occupancy and also asked to increase the seating capacity to 100 percent.

The government released its statement regarding the theatre occupancy recently, which said: “The seating capacity of Cinemas/theatres/Multiplexes shall be permitted to increase from existing 0% to 100% by following the Standard Operating Procedure issued already. Further, in order to create awareness among the spectators, the precautionary measures for Covid 19 shall also be screened during the show time.”

Vijay’s most awaited project ‘Master’ is all set to be released on January 13 for Pongal festival. The movie will be released in four languages of Tamil, Hindi, Telugu and Kannada across the country. In the Master movie, Vijay plays the role of a college professor who has a violent past and actor Vijay Sethupathi plays the role of the villain. The other cast members of Master include Malavika Mohanan, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj and Andrea Jeremiah. The movie was produced by Xavier Britto. The movie also marks the maiden partnership of Vijay and director Lokesh Kanagaraj.

The next mega movie yet to be released for Pongal festival is Simbu’s Eeswaran. The movie will be released on January 14. It is a typical rural family drama and has been directed by Suseenthiran. The movie also stars Niddhi Agerwal.
