Bengaluru, India (CU)_ Finally, the US electric car giant Tesla has entered India and enrolled its company in Bengaluru city in Karnataka. The Chief Minister of Karnataka BS Yediyurappa welcomed the CEO of Tesla Elon Musk to India and his state. The Chief Minister took Twitter to confirm the news that the carmaker has set up an R&D unit in Bengaluru.

Mr Yediyurappa’s tweet greeted Elon Musk and expressed glad over Tesla’s entry into India. The tweet read the following: “Karnataka will lead India’s journey towards Green Mobility. Electric Vehicle Manufacturer Tesla will soon start its operations in India with an R&D unit in Bengaluru. I welcome Elon Musk to India and Karnataka and wish him all the very best.” The Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced the launch of Tesla in India as well. Mr. Gadkari, Minister of Transport, announced in December that the Tesla Model 3 will first be introduced in India.

Tesla Motors India and Energy Private Limited was launched in India on January 8 and registered its office in Bengaluru, which is a key center for numerous multinational technology companies. In order to develop operations in the region, the company is also in contact with other five state governments such as Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

The regulatory filing indicates that David Feinstein is one of the three directors in the Indian unit of Tesla. He, according to his LinkedIn profile, is currently a senior executive at Tesla. Tesla’s direct entrance into the Indian market in 2021 was also confirmed by Elon Musk. Last month, in response to a post in Twitter with a photograph of a T-shirt with the message: “India wants Tesla”, Mr Musk said, “Next year for sure”.

According to a survey, Model 3, the affordable model among Tesla vehicles that starts with a rate at about 55 lakhs, will be the first model to be released in India and that the bookings will commence in January. The entry of Tesla into India comes at a right time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also focusing more on green energy and encouraging the people to use electric vehicles.
