Biden to meet with Senate Republicans offering covid relief counter-proposal

President Biden is schedule  to meet on Monday with 10 GOP legislators to make a bipartisan arrangement as opposed to continuing onward with a partisan division vote on his $1.9 trillion Covid alleviation plan.

The gathering reported plans Sunday to deliver a roughly $600 billion Covid alleviation bundle as a counter-proposition to President Biden’s a lot bigger arrangement, representing a test for the new president who crusaded on vows to bring together Congress and the country.

The representatives, driven by Susan Collins (R-Maine), said they would officially uncover the arrangement on Monday, and they mentioned a gathering with President Biden.  President Biden and Collins thusly spoke, and White House press secretary Jen Psaki reported late Sunday that the president had welcomed the 10 Republican administrators to the White House “for a full trade of perspectives.”

The meeting will occur on Monday, as per two individuals with information on the plans who spoke on anonymity ahead of an official announcement. The planned meeting comes even as Democrats prepare to move forward this week to set up a partisan path for Biden’s relief bill, which Republicans have dismissed as overly costly given some $4 trillion Congress has already committed to fighting the pandemic, including $900 billion in December.

The GOP proposal jettisons certain elements that have drawn Republican opposition, such as increasing the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour.

It would also reduce the size of a new round of checks Biden wants to send to Americans, from $1,400 per individual to $1,000 — while significantly reducing the income limits that determine eligibility for the stimulus payments.
