Bangladesh, Asia’s second largest source of online workforce

Dhaka, Bangladesh (CU)_ According to a statement published by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Bangladesh is Asia’s second-largest source of online workforce and India stands in the third place. The Asian Economic Integration (ACI) survey 2021 stated that India, Bangladesh and Pakistan together make up 52 per cent of the global online workforce in Asia and the Philippines stands in sixth place.

The report stated that majority of online jobs involve the software development, technology and creative and multimedia. The reports of ACI said that the proportion of creative and multimedia staff surged by 34 per cent in Bangladesh and 40 per cent in Indonesia between 2017 and 2020. So far, this accounted for about 59 percent of online workers in Bangladesh and 74 percent of online workers in Indonesia.

The creative and multimedia online employees of the Philippines share around 47% of online jobs, while Pakistan accounts for 31%. In the Philippines, about 25 percent of online employees are active in clerical and data services, whereas in Bangladesh, India, Indonesia and Pakistan, these workers make up less than 10 percent.

The Filipino online staff account for just about 14% of software development and technology-related activities, whereas India, Pakistan and Vietnam account for 59%, 45% and 52% of such workers, respectively. The creative industry of Asia is expected to dramatically bloom in the future, due to a wide reserve of young, creative and technology-savvy individuals.
