Maldivian President to visit Bangladesh on Golden Jubilee Independence Day and Mujib Borsho

Male, Maldives (CU)_ Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the President of Maldives, will pay an official visit to Dhaka in March to join the occasion of Golden Jubilee celebrations of Bangladesh’s Independence Day and Mujib Borsho, the birth anniversary of Father of nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid, who visited Bangladesh, told President Abdul Hamid of the progress, when he met him at the Bangabhaban. The President said that on the special occasion of celebrations of the Golden Jubilee of Independence and the Mujib Year, the people of Bangladesh are enthusiastically expecting the arrival of the Maldivian President.

President Hamid welcomed the FM and said that Bangladesh is a close and trusted friend of the Maldives and that Bangladesh focuses on improving relations with the Maldives. Moreover, in regional and international forums, Bangladesh and the Maldives support each other on different issues. The President noted that about 85,000 Bangladesh workers are employed in the Maldives, and that they are contributing a major share to the socio-economic growth of the two countries.

Presidential Secretary Sampad Barua, Military Major General SM Salah Uddin Islam, Press Secretary Joynal Abedin and Secretary Wahidul Islam Khan and the High Commissioners of both countries also attended the gathering. The Foreign Minister of the Maldives believes that the current relations between the two countries will be enhanced if the President of the Maldives visit Bangladesh on the occasion of its special day.
