Covid-19: Death toll increases to 51 110, with 95 new deaths reported in the last 24 hours

An additional 95 Covid-19 related deaths have been recorded in South Africa, bringing the total to 51,110 as of 11 March 2020.

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize released a statement on Thursday evening with regards the deaths recorded in the last 24 hours and gave a detailed breakdown of the areas from where the infected persons are.  As said, they are: 25 were recorded in Gauteng, 21 in the Free State, 17 in the Northern Cape, 11 in the Western Cape, 10 in Limpopo, six in KwaZulu-Natal, and five in the Eastern Cape.

“We convey our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the healthcare workers who treated the deceased patients,” Mkhize added.

In the meantime, the SARS-CoV-2  confirmed infected persons which causes COVID-19 has also increased by 1,474 which has been recorded in the past 24 hours thus  increasing the total number of infected persons to 1,525,648.

Gauteng remains the most affected province, with 26.8% of all recorded infections, followed by KwaZulu-Natal (21.7%) and the Western Cape (18.3%).

The number of confirmed active infections as of 11 March was 27 035, with KwaZulu-Natal, the Western Cape and Free State accounting for almost half of all active cases.

The recovery rate continues to increase, with 1 447 503 recoveries recorded to date, which translates to a rate of 94.8%.

Mkhize reported 138 014 healthcare workers have been vaccinated as of 18:30 on Thursday.
