LONDON (CU)_British broadcaster Piers Morgan has called on Britons to ‘stand up for our Queen’ over allegations of racism made by Harry and Meghan against the Royal Family. The former Good Morning Britain host took to Twitter to slam the claims made by the Duke and Dutchess of Sussex, accusing them of leading a campaign to portray the Royal Family as a ‘bunch of heartless racists’.

A week after resigning from his role as presenter of GMB over comments made about the couple’s controversial interview with Oprah Winfrey, Morgan wrote: “There’s a very deliberate & malicious campaign being perpetrated by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to smear, defame and trash Britain, our Monarchy & the Royal Family as a bunch of heartless racists. It’s disgusting.”

“Time to stand up for our Queen.”

During the bombshell interview with Oprah, which aired in Britain on 8 March, Meghan suggested the royal family was racist, claiming that an unnamed member raised concerns regarding how dark their son Archie’s skin might be. She also opened up about her struggles with mental health during her time as a member of the royal family before and after the couple’s withdrawal from royal duties.

Speaking after the interview aired, Morgan said she did not believe the Duchess’ remarks about her mental health and about having had suicidal thoughts. GMB weatherman Alex Beresford denounced his comments about Meghan during the show, which prompted Morgan to storm off the set, and later gave his resignation from his role as presenter after refusing to apologise for his remarks.

Morgan’s empty chair was filled in by Ben Shephard, who traditionally co-hosts the show on Thursdays and Fridays.  Meanwhile, GMB’s ratings took a humiliating dive on the first Monday morning without Morgan, with its average viewers reportedly down by 255,700 in comparison to the previous Monday.
