The Covid spread in Brazil has turned from bad to worse as the country tops 300,000 confirmed deaths due to the pandemic. The United States reached this terrible milestone last year on the 14th of December.
The Health Minister of Brazil said in his report that there were more than 2000 death daily due to the infection. This brings the pandemic death total to a whopping 300,685. It was earlier this week that the country saw their single highest day for the number of deaths due to the virus and that was 3251.
There was a media report that had mentioned the latest figures that were produced of Covid death numbers may have been affected by the government’s new counting method. The newly appointed Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga said in a press conference that he was going to check whether the numbers had been artificially reduced.
The state governors and mayors are now expressing their concerns and fear with the daily death toll running high, that the countries hospitals may not be able to handle new cases every day. Brazil has a fear that if this were to continue then April would be as bad as March for them.
In only the past 75 days Brazil has had up to 100,000 new confirmed coronavirus deaths. The health experts blame this spike on the lack of political coordination and being organized to fight the pandemic as new variants of the virus spread much faster than the original.
The President of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro has called in an emergency meeting with the heads of the other government branches to try and coordinate themselves better to beat the virus. This is being done after he has consistently downplayed the severity of the pandemic, insisting the economy must be kept humming to prevent worse hardship, and he has criticized health measures imposed by local leaders.
