While everyone in Sri Lanka enjoyed the peace of Easter with their loved ones there was anything other than peace happening at the Mrs. Sri Lanka Pageant at the Nelum Pokuna Theater. It was all glamour and glitz when these beautiful ladies took stage to compete in the pageant. The winner would represent Sri Lanka in Mrs. World.
There are of course rules and regulation when taking part in such things. A contestant wanting to take part must qualify under the criteria that is set before them by an international panel. There is a vetting process that takes place before applicants are either accepted or rejected.
This was however not the case when it came to last night’s Mrs. World Winner Pushpika De Silva. She was given the crown as was decided by the panel of highly esteemed judges for it only to be ripped away a few minutes later by former Mrs. Sri Lanka and current Mrs. World Caroline Jurie. Now the basis of this was the fact that Mrs. De Silva was in fact a divorcee and could not be eligible for the win. This has its own concerns as to why only Caroline Jurie was aware of this, did Pushpika lie or did the panel of judges now vet and verify her properly before allowing her to compete in the pageant itself. The question should be asked what gives Caroline Jurie the right to do something like dethrone a Mrs. Sri Lanka without having hard evidence of some form of proper rule breaking or disqualifying behavior.
What evidence didi Caroline Jurie have to prove that Pushpika De Silva was in fact divorces when such documentation cannot be found or produced. Why did Caroline Jurie wait till the crowning was finished to inform the entire country that the new Mrs. Sri lanka was going to be embarrassed that way? These question will surely be answered in the near future. But it does make on wonder are women so jealous of each other that they must publicly humiliate each other, and if you are going to be the queen even if it is some beauty pageant queen shouldn’t you behave you with some grace and dignity.
It’s safe to say that Caroline Jurie did not behave a way any young women with any kind education or respect for some else. Either way it’s up to each person’s opinion. ju
