Kochi, Kerala (CU)_ Despite the fact that hospitals and COVID-19 patients throughout the country are running out of medical oxygen, health specialists of Kerala are predicting a blood shortage in the near future. Indeed, the Kerala State Blood Transfusion Council reports that since the COVID-19 pandemic started in 2020, the state has seen a 10% drop in blood donation. While this has not resulted in a blood shortage in state blood banks, experts are considering several initiatives in anticipation of a potential shortage in the coming months. They expect a shortage due to the launch of phase three COVID-19 vaccine campaign on May 1 for people aged between 18 to 44.
