ABUJA, Nigeria (CU)_ Over the past couple of weeks, the Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland met with the Commonwealth Women’s Ministers Action Group and the Commonwealth Youth Ministers Task Force. During these meetings, the participants discussed the disproportionate impact the Coronavirus pandemic has had on the youth and women across the Commonwealth. Accordingly, the participants agreed to place the issues faced by these two groups at the top of the agenda at the next Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), which was due to be held in Rwanda next month.

However, the high level summit was postponed for the second time on account of the recent surge in COVID-19 infections in several countries across the globe. According to the statement issued earlier this week, the Commonwealth Secretariat intends to work closely with the government of Rwanda, in order to ensure that an agreement is reached on the rescheduling of the summit in Kigali when the conditions allow.
