Andi Robin Ross worked in an elite educational institute in Wellington New Zealand. As a member of the staff he was of course given access to the school computer system and the school records. This is only normal procedure.
But the school had not made any plans for what this man was about to do with the information he had. Andy then continued to fraud the school out of almost 500,000 dollars. How he did it was that he gained access to the school records and then he managed to forge certain document and then make the money through that.
The court case of 35 counts began in 2019 and is still being heard today as the judges have not sentenced him. Initially the media withheld the name of the school and the individual as they did not want there to be mud slung at the institution. But it was made clear by the institution that the names should be in the media as they didn’t want this man to do this to another education institution or any other office.
Although the initial amount he had been able to fraud was close to 175,000. Andy had mismanaged to keep the fraud going till he had reached half a million and if not being caught he would have managed to make a lot more.
With this happening educational employees now are facing the fact that they may have only m=limited access to documentation or would possibly be monitored closely by management when they do access information. This is not because they are not trustworthy but because this sort of thing can’t happen.
