New Delhi, India (CU)_ Today, May 21, 2021 marks the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s 30th death anniversary. He was the 6th Prime Minister of India from 1984 to 1989. On this day, Rajiv Gandhi was honored by son Rahul Gandhi, daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and others. In India, the 21st of May is also marked as Anti-Terrorism Day, commemorating Rajiv Gandhi’s death anniversary. The day is commemorated every year to emphasize the importance of combating terrorism.

Rajiv Gandhi was born on August 20, 1944 in Mumbai to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and freedom fighter and politician Feroze Gandhi. In his early years, Rajiv Gandhi was not much involved in politics. After his studies in the United Kingdom, he returned to India in 1966. He served for Indian Airlines as a licensed pilot. He married Sonia Gandhi, the current Congress president and chairperson of the United Progressive Alliance, in 1968.
