Get them while you can.

The best thing about a national day or an independence day in any country are the fireworks and the people of that country local or foreign enjoying the festivities. With this pandemic people has precious little to celebrate last year and for the better part of this year. Almost every country had to either cancel or postpone their national day and Independence Day celebrations.

It seems like this year although with vaccine drives that have helped them reach herd immunity and the number of corona virus positive patients dropping rapidly it seems that the United States of America will possibly not have their 4th of July National day celebrations like they had planned to. The question is how and why. Well the answer is simple with shipping prices sky rocketing firework suppliers will not be shipping like they used as they can’t afford to hike up the prices unless it’s by a few dollars and that will not help to bridge the gap.

Donnora has been selling fireworks in Wyoming County for 45 years. He’s known around Forkston Township as The Godfather of Fireworks. Donnora stated that “Everybody waits like 10 days before the 4th and then it’s like a rush hour, it’s a shortage. There’s nothing I can do about it except wait.” Normally, you’d be able to still get what you need at his fireworks factory, and there’s still plenty for sale. But Donnora says with the fireworks shortage, you have to buy them now. They might not be around last minute this year.

As Donnora explains it, the demand is there, but not the supply. There’s a backup on orders from the factories in China that ship it here. Shipping costs have skyrocketed, part of that is because of the disruption at the Suez Canal in the spring. To give you an idea of how long it’s taking these shipments of fireworks to show up in Wyoming County all the way from China, Donnora says he placed the orders months in advance. They normally arrive in May, but still aren’t here and aren’t expected to show up until mid-July.
