Green Party ‘absolutely agrees’ with the government?

LONDON (CU)_Earlier this week, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s spokesperson for the COP26 climate summit, Allegra Stratton, faced widespread criticism for saying people could reduce their personal environmental impact by not rinsing their plates before putting them in the dishwasher. Now once again, the PM’s former press secretary has made headlines by claiming that people can “join the Green Party” if they want to assist in tackling the climate crisis, comments which prompted a welcome from the left-wing political party.

“When people say to me, ‘what can they do?’, they can do many things, they can join Greenpeace, they can join the Green party, they can join the Tory party,” she told The Independent during an interview this week. “So there’s lots of ways they can get involved in politics, but for those people who wouldn’t, how do you start to change your life in manageable, achievable, feasible, small ways?”

It is understood that Stratton made these comments in response to a question regarding what people should do if they are of the view that the government’s initiatives n climate action are not sufficient. Nevertheless, the Green party co-leader Jonathan Bartley welcomed the remarks made by the former Downing Street press secretary, claiming that he fully agrees with the government in this regard.

“After decades of inaction from both the Conservatives and Labour, we would absolutely agree with the government that joining the Green party is the best thing people can do to help tackle climate change,” he said.
