Schools under pressure from staff absences due to Covid

In Newport, year nine pupils at Llanwern High School and Caerleon Comprehensive School are learning from home because of staff absences due to Covid.

Year nine were chosen for remote learning as they are old enough to not be childcare burden on parents. Older year groups remain in school because they have exams this year and have a more pressing need to stay in the classroom.
