Planning authorities, business representatives debate the future of gassy underground mine

SYDNEY (CU)_The Independent Planning Commission of New South Wales is currently considering an application submitted by Whitehaven Coal to extend the life of one of its underground coal mines in north-west New South Wales. A public hearing into the project began on Sunday (13 February), when Whitehaven Coal, together with planning authorities, business representatives and environmental advocates debated the effects of the extension of the mine on Australia’ economy, as well as the ongoing climate crisis.
