Male, Maldives (CU)_ The Maldives has opened four additional tourism facilities to the guests in the island over the last week, which includes three guesthouses and one resort. According to the recent weekly statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism, the following guesthouses resumed operations to the tourists recently. One guesthouse in the Greater Malé Region of Kaafu atoll reopened its doors to tourists; one guesthouse in Kaafu atoll’s Gaafaru island also resumed operations; and one guesthouse in Meemu atoll’s Veyvah island also reopened last week.
This brings the overall number of visitor accommodation establishments in the Maldives to 966, comprising 163 resorts, 643 guesthouses, 12 hotels, and 149 liveaboard boats. Additionally, the total number of operating beds climbed to 54,478, out of which 38,928 are in resorts, 1,916 in hotels, 11,212 in guesthouses, and 2,920 on safari vessels.
The Maldives now comprises 1,169 tourism facilities, including 152 safari boats, 849 hotels and guesthouses, and 168 resorts. This implies that three safari boats, five resorts, and 195 guesthouses and hotels have yet to reopen. The following guesthouses are currently in operation.
Thirteen guesthouses on three of the Haa Alif atoll’s islands; 9 guesthouses on three of the Haa Dhaal atoll’s islands; 4 guesthouses on the Shaviyani atoll’s four islands; 6 guesthouses on three of the Noonu atoll’s islands; 2 guesthouses on two of the Raa atoll’s islands; 40 guesthouses on Baa atoll’s 12 islets; 4 guesthouses on four of the Lhaviyani atoll’s islands; 248 guesthouses on the ten islands of the Kaafu atoll; 124 guesthouses on the Alif Alif atoll’s eight islands; 72 guesthouses on the Alif Dhaal atoll’s nine islands.
Additionally, fifty guesthouses on the Vaavu atoll’s five islands; 5 guesthouses on the Meemu atoll’s five islands; 8 guesthouses on two of the Faafu atoll’s islands; 4 guesthouses on four of the Dhaalu atoll’s islands, 5 guesthouses on four of Thaa atoll’s islands; 3 guesthouses on a single Laamu atoll island; 7 guesthouses on the Gaaf Alif atoll’s six islands; 6 guesthouses on four of the Gaaf Dhaal atoll’s islands; 20 guesthouses in Fuvahmulah City; and 13 guesthouses are located in six areas of Addu City, Seenu atoll.
The ministry allowed the debut of Homestays in the Maldives on January 1, with the first at Dhiggaru island of Meemu atoll. This is consistent with the president’s vision and program for tourist development, which aims to make tourism and its associated advantages more accessible to island populations.
