NASSAU – There has been a lot of hate happening in the world lately and most of it has been directed towards the police forces for their absolute abuse of powers.

Whilst we cannot in anyway sit here and talk about there not being an abuse of power by the men and women in Blue we must also acknowledge that they also do a lot of good and that sometimes goes unnoticed by the public.

The media is always concentrating on the violence when thigs that are not done in violence goes ignored. This story is about a A Nassau County police officer was honored Monday for his efforts to save a life while off-duty.

There was urgency in him when he saw those people struggling and he although on his way home to his loved ones risked his life to save these people and did not at any point expect anything in return for it.

Ryan Paterson came across a two-car crash in Massapequa and saw a vehicle burst into flames with the driver inside.

Police say Paterson pulled the driver to safety just before the car exploded.

“It feels really great to get honored like this, but it just goes to show you that I believe that all of my brothers and sister would do the exact same thing – on or off duty,” says Paterson.

Paterson was named the Nassau Legislative Top Cop for April 2022.
