Male, Maldives (CU)_ The Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Maldives have maintained a close bilateral and multilateral working relationship for a long period of time. Accordingly, in this setting, there are enormous prospects for further collaboration in sectors like tourism, culture, trade, and investment promotion.

Nigeria and the Maldives are about to embark on a new era of tourism and commercial growth in the near future. This announcement comes on the heels of a recent familiarization trip by Ms. Elizabeth Agboola, CEO/Founder of NTT Global Destinations, and a team of legal, trade, and cultural promotion professionals to the Maldives.

The journey, organized in collaboration with the International Maldives Travel Market (IMTM), took place from 29th March to 3rd April 2022 and gave critical insight into the opportunities for tourism and trade between Nigeria and the Maldives. Despite the fact that Nigerians have been visiting the Maldives for years, there is still plenty to learn about this gem of the Indian Ocean, which is consistently listed as one of the world’s best tourism destinations.

According to Ms. Agboola, ‘’Every Nigerian should have a chance to experience the Maldivian dream and NTT Global Destinations is ready to take them there”. The familiarization journey also allowed the NTT team to pay a visit to guest houses in Male and neighboring islands such as Maafushi, Hudhuranfushi, Olhuveli, and Maamigilli.

In spite of the pandemic-induced losses encountered throughout the year 2021, Maldives tourism has maintained pace as the country has flourished to resurrect and recover tourism even during the harsh times of the worldwide pandemic in 2021. Due to the area’s unique physical layout, which facilitates isolation, the country was able to give travelers a natural isolation and protection during the covid 19 pandemic.
