Vandalism results in the closure of  Prestonpans bus stop library!

UNITED KINGDOM – The anonymous kind souls behind the @PPansBus Shelter Twitter account are no stranger to community projects promoting kindness and bringing people together, having been responsible for Bus Stop Advent campaign last December.

In April, a crate of books was left at the Northfield House bus shelter on Preston Road to allow passersby to help themselves to secondhand reads and had proved popular with locals.

This also helped the people waiting for the bus pass time. Children were keener on reading and there was less hours spent on their phones and iPad, which in this and age is a huge win for any parent out there.

The whole thing seemed to be going well and people were refilling the little box or returning what they borrowed once done. The community was appreciative of this.

But one can say that nothing good lasts forever and just like that the bus stop library will no longer be available to the public due to vandals damaging the books.

A spokesperson for the account said: “The bus shelter library will be taking a break. There have been too many incidents of books being destroyed and littering the surrounding area. Sadly, that also means that free sunflower seedlings won’t be available as planned. Thank you to all who got involved – it was fun!”

Prestonpans Community Council replied to the announcement, saying: “This is such a shame, it has been a lovely initiative.”
