Singapore envoy lauds Bangladesh’s electricity and energy sectors

Dhaka, Bangladesh (CU)_ The energy industry of Bangladesh is booming. Recently, Bangladesh began building the 2.4-gigawatt (GW) Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, which is anticipated to be operational by 2023. As of March 2022, according to the Bangladesh Power Development Board, the whole population had access to electricity.

Derek Loh, non-resident high commissioner of Singapore to Bangladesh, applauded the outstanding performance and success of Bangladesh’s power and energy industry. During a courtesy visit to Nasrul Hamid, State Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources, at his ministry office, he invited the power and energy sectors of Bangladesh to work with the Singapore market. He stated, “The Power and Energy sector of Bangladesh can issue bonds or join the capital market as the Singaporean market is open for all”.

During the meeting, they covered several subjects, including matters of common concern to both nations. According to the State Minister, the energy and electricity industries of Bangladesh are investment-friendly. He also expressed hopes for collaboration in the power and energy sectors. He said, “To update the overall system of the power and energy sector with modern technology, we can work on a partnership basis”.

Nasrul stated that a joint committee might be created to analyze further plans for Singapore. According to him, in tandem with Bangladesh’s remarkable economic progress, the two nations may collaborate on planned urbanization, energy, education, and technology industries.

In addition to the other delegates at the meeting, Sheela Pillai, the chief of mission of the Singapore High Commission in Bangladesh; Uma Muniandy, the deputy director of the Singapore Commerce Ministry; Nathaniel Lee, Country Officer for South Asia Affairs of the Foreign Ministry in Singapore; Jayakrishnan Gopalakrishnan, Singapore’s Director of Enterprise; and Audrey Tan, Global Director of Enterprise Singapore, were also present during the meeting.
