Malé inhabitants to receive 3,000 land plots by end June

Male, Maldives (CU)_ By the end of June, the government will announce the issuance of 3,000 plots of land that would be made available to Malé City inhabitants. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih made the announcement during a recent news conference, where he informed the public about the government’s efforts to award land plots to Malé citizens.

As a result, he stated that the first 3,000 plots of land would be declared for distribution by the end of June and that all necessary preparations have been made. This will organize the initiative to provide housing and land ownership for Malé inhabitants. During his presidential address at the opening session of the People’s Majlis this year, President Solih promised to grant land to permanent inhabitants of the capital city who are in desperate need of homes before the end of his term.

Indicating that access to state resources must be guaranteed for all, the president noted that the government intends to achieve the target through collaborative efforts. According to the president, as promised earlier, permanent Malé City residents who are in desperate need of homes would receive lands during the five-year term of the current administration. The president declared that the Giraavaru lagoon will be recovered and 2,000 plots of land will be distributed to Malé’s permanent population. He also stated that the Giraavaru lagoon will be linked to the Greater Male region by means of the Thilamalé bridge.

The president emphasized that proper housing and home ownership is the single biggest requirement of the Maldivian citizens and that 2,180 houses are being constructed as part of the programs designed to offer houses in remote atolls. In addition, the president promised that land property will be handed to Malé’s permanent citizens. The government intends to provide permanent Malé inhabitants with 1,000 plots of land from Hulhumalé and minimum 2,000 plots of land from Gulhifalhu.
